In 2020 CERN released its Open Data policy document, which was endorsed by the 4 large LHC experiments at CERN. The policy was written to balance the concerns from the experiments related to loss of ownership of their data, and resource issues with the desire to be as open as possible with the data. The policy foresees all of the experiments releasing a substantial part of their data with a latency of 5 years since the data was collected. This talk will discuss the policy and its implementation challenges, including discussing the datasets that have been publicly released since the policy was endorsed, and some thoughts on the how this will work in the future.
