Nicolas H presented upcoming changes on how datasets are accessed and handled (“v4”). Changes were done to allow now more complex queries while making internal changes for better consistency (e.g. between attachments, datablocks and origdatablocks).

Showed new proposal tab.

 

Max N made a demo on new frontend features, describing the work: researching on the tool that meets the needs and community and implementing them. Demonstrated features: change width of columns, order, remove, add columns you like, save them under your user profile, etc.

His demo included an overview of proposal class capabilities: it now contains a “metadata” field, similar to “scientific metadata” in datasets class. Up to the user to define fields and store information per proposal. More information from DOOR?

 

Regina H gave a preview of new SciCat documentation (not yet online). User documentation content has been fully migrated, extended by additional sections (Quick link on How-Tos, Troubleshooting). Next: integrate with manual for Site-Admins/Operators.

 

Disussions highlights:

1. Smooth transition planned from v3 to v4 dataset endpoints: only tiny changes to be expected! Main one concern type changes (an array instead of a string).

2. How is data ingestion organised at DESY? Interesting for other facilities to possibly adopt.

3. Queries: Frontend does the filtering after the first “global search”. Difference between dataset and proposal searches.

4. Towards data curation: Now one can relate to a datasets to several samples and instruments.

5. Need: How to use SciCat at DESY!
