Publications of research results is the currency in modern science. It might not be your favorite occupation, but it is a decisive one, strongly determining your future research and career opportunities. In this course, you will be introduced to the process of writing a scientific paper. In order to deepen and apply this knowledge, you will also actually produce a manuscript based on your research data (and one that might serve as the foundation for a journal submission).
A-Z of scientific writing:
- Developing a clear main message
- Priority setting in the writing process
- Structure and logical flow of the text
- Create meaningful graphics
- Memorable introduction and abstract
- Do's and Don'ts of AI Tools in writing
- How to develop a daily writing routine
- Efficient communication with co-authors
PLEASE NOTE: Given that this is a hands-on seminar, you need some (analyzed) data that can serve as the foundation for a journal article. Please also bring some scientific texts written by you (e.g. Bachelor or Master thesis, as well as any published or upcoming papers) to the seminar.

PEP is a cooperation of the PIER Helmholtz Graduate School, the Quantum Universe Research School QURS, the Research School of the Hamburg Center for Ultrafast Imaging/Advanced Imaging of Matter CUI/AIM, DASHH and HELIOS.
PhD students from other affiliated research centers such as the Collaborative Research Center SFB 925, the International Max Planck Research School for Ultrafast Imaging & Structural Dynamics IMPRS-UFAST, the Centre for Structural Systems Biology CSSB, and the European Molecular Biology Laboratory EMBL may also participate upon request if free places are available.
Note: Your registration is pending until the final confirmation from the organisers, which will be e-mailed to you after the end of the registration deadline. The number of available places is limited to 14.
