Description

The European project TWAC (THz Waveguide Accelerating Cavity) [1] is developing a compact accelerator prototype based on partially filled dielectric waveguides. With accelerating waves at THz frequencies (0.1-1 THz) and gradients of the order of 100 MV/m, this type of accelerators opens up compact acceleration and short beam shaping capabilities [2]. The TWAC project aims to demonstrate the acceleration and beam shaping for bunch compression (velocity bunching). Among the diagnostics, Coherent Transition Radiation (CTR) will be used to measure the bunch compression rate. The beams to be measured will be of relatively low energy and charge (10 MeV, 10 pC) with rms durations ranging from the picosecond to around 50 femtoseconds.
