IQP Seminar: Quantum simulation using ultracold Yb atoms in optical lattices

Abstract: 

Ytterbium is a two-electron system and has been applied to quantum simulations due to the existence of narrow transitions (clock

 

transitions) and fermionic 173Yb isotopes with SU(N) degrees of nuclear spin freedom. Through the development of various control and observational techniques, our research group at Kyoto University has recently been studying quantum simulations of quantum many-body systems in optical lattices, for example, short-range spin correlations using fermionic Yb atoms with SU(N) symmetry [1], nonequilibrium dynamics after sudden quench or introducing non- Hermitian dissipation [2,3], and many-body force experiment [4].

 

In this talk, I will report on the latest experimental results in Kyoto University, including current developing methods for measuring spin-correlation, such as a quantum gas microscope technique.
