European XFEL staff are invited to participate in a hands-on Design Thinking workshop addressing the theme of Sustainability, with a special focus on data and related services within large-scale research infrastructures and user facilities.

This workshop happens in the framework of the ATTRACT project, part of a collaborative initiative with students and professors from the Technology for Social Innovation (TeSI) course in Barcelona—an interdisciplinary program that fosters innovative solutions for societal challenges through design, business, and engineering approaches. This semester, two student teams have been focusing their work on the alternative uses of Silicon Nanoribbons, a sample of interest for the SXP instrument and produced at the PES Laboratory.

The event will feature visiting students from:

  • Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) – Engineering

  • ESADE Business School – Business Analytics

  • Istituto Europeo di Design (IED), Barcelona – Design

Participants will explore how Design Thinking can be applied to concrete work challenges. The workshop will apply a human-centred innovation approach to a real sustainability-related challenge at European XFEL, aiming to foster a creative exchange between our guests and European XFEL.
