The Worldwide LHC Computing Grid (WLCG) was established as a global infrastructure to provide resources for the storage, distribution and analysis of the substantial volumes of data generated by the LHC experiments. To ensure that the individual players make their respective contributions, the resources contributed must be properly accounted for. However, managing and processing large volumes of accounting data in different environments and applications is a major challenge. The accounting ecosystem AUDITOR addresses this issue by providing a flexible framework for building accounting pipelines that can adapt to a wide range of needs.

This is just one of many possible use cases for AUDITOR. Many data centres operate not only a high-throughput Cluster for WLCG, but also high-performance clusters, analysis facilities and other shared compute clusters whose resource usage must be correctly accounted for. At its core, AUDITOR provides an interface for storing accounting records, enabling seamless integration with collectors that gather data from various sources and plugins that process this data for further analysis.

This presentation explains the basic principle of accounting computing resources, describes the structure of the AUDITOR accounting system, and demonstrates existing accounting pipelines.
