On the question on “is there room on top”, input will be collected at the retreat
Ties, how do we interface with the QU II Cluster in Hamburg and in the Bonn Cluster. Connections to the Mainz Cluster and Muenich Cluster, Koeln/Juelich?
Ties says that the subtopics should not be too different from the Cluster QU. George: we do also things not only in the Cluster.
Ties said that axion experiments should stay in FPF. Georg: we should have however an answer why axion should stay in FPF.
Ties: overall we must have a message on LHC/Belle II/axions/…, we need to make a story.
In the retreat Isabell would like to see a punchline why a measurement is particularly important, also for not experts.
Georg is disappointed to what is written in our 2024 strategy paper. A big part should be Higgs and electroweak phase transition.
Isabell: we have a new chance, and we can rephrase it.
Ties said that in 2024 there was emphasis on some big questions, like dark matter and neutrino, compared to Higgs.
Georg: to sell the LHC science, we need to put emphasis on Higgs.
It follows a discussion on the 3 subtopics.
Isabell notices that searches are not there.
Thomas says that we should not structure our topics on searches, but on the fundamental questions, not on the methods and searches are basically everywhere.
Ties said that the 3 topics should have equal weights, this is not the case now.
We could make the point that searches are part of the method to address these questions.
Georg/Ties/Thomas/Felix: we want to understand how nature works. Searches play an important role and is one tool, this is how we should sell it.
Ties: how big are the groups in each subtopic?
Isabell: The right one is quite complete, not much change from last time
Georg: the BSM searches could go in this right topics. Cosmology is not specific enough. It should not only be searches for dark matter.
Georg: replace g-2 with electroweak precision physics (Lattice people are not working anymore on g-2). Combine Lattice QCD with QCD, just one bullet
Georg: how to distribute Higgs in 1st and 2nd topic
Georg: add Higgs physics in Electroweak
Thomas: can we go back to pp/e+e- etc. physics?
It follows a discussion on the main message from the LHC
Georg: add “Electroweak phase transition” in 2nd
Sasha: keep in 2nd “Lepton flavour universality”, some people do it
CP is done by a YIG.
The discussion will continue in 2 weeks.
Ties: if we are asked to sell our program in 10 seconds, what is the program of the next 10 years. Everybody should come with an elevator speech. What is going to be new?
Georg: the 3 headlines tell already the science story. We can make the point how we achieve this.
