In this talk, I will discuss recent developments in the context of the Emergence Proposal in the swampland framework. After reviewing related notions, such as the species scale, I will motivate and exhibit its applicability in a decompactification limit to M-theory. Motivated by this, I will present some new developments for M-theory in the context of matrix models in the form of non-associative extensions thereof.
