Description
The behaviour and physical properties of matter at pressures beyond few Mbars and temperatures of several 1000s of Kelvin is fundamental for various domains of physics among which planetary cores and Inertial Confinement Fusion. This extreme state of matter can only be achieved by laser driven shocks techniques. In this talk I will review the various techniques of compression (shock and isentropic compression) which have been developed in the last 10 years to measure equation of state. In particular I will show how x-ray diagnostics are nowadays a fundamental tool to diagnose accurately these extreme state of matter. This will be illustrated by the study of telluric planets interiors and its impact on super-earths behaviour, and detailed structure measurements near melting of aluminium.
