Description
I'll discuss our ongoing project to model the large-scale magnetic fields in our Galaxy using a variety of observables including polarized synchrotron and thermal dust emission and Faraday rotation measures. Recent new data have made it possible to significantly advance these studies and to break some of the degeneracies that have plagued them in the past. I'll show how we can learn about related questions such as the distribution of cosmic ray electrons and the alignment of dust grains, and outline future prospects with new data from Planck to the SKA.
