High-energy x-ray powder diffraction is a powerful tool to investigate the structure of materials at various length scales, including nano-crystalline, disordered, and very complex polycrystalline compounds. Especially real-time in situ and in operando studies in basic and applied materials science greatly benefit from the new capabilities provided by highly brilliant light sources like PETRA III. These facilities open up new opportunities for recent areas of research such as developing efficient systems for energy harvesting and storage, tailoring nanosized and nanostructured materials, and enhancing the performance of advanced engineering materials.
The high resolution powder diffraction beamline P02.1 combines multiple techniques to measure at high angular resolution, up to high momentum transfer, and at sub-second time resolution. This workshop will bring together current users and interested research groups to explore the potential of P02.1. Scientific results that were obtained during the first two years of user operation will be presented. Upcoming upgrades and perspectives will be discussed with respect to the requirements of the expanding user community. Additional lectures on key aspects of experiment and analysis such as high resolution powder diffraction and pair distribution function modelling will complete the programme.
