In order to fully exploit the physics potential of the LHC, we need precise
theoretical predictions also for less inclusive observables. This is
challenging in several ways. First of all, perturbative computations get
much more involved for higher jet multiplicities. Secondly, higher-order
corrections are enhanced if one wants to predict properties of individual
jets, or more generally if a collider observable involves several disparate
scales. In my talk I will discuss this second challenge. I will explain the
physics of soft and collinear emissions and outline how their structure can
be implemented into an effective field theory. I will then present some
recent examples of how this Soft-Collinear Effective Theory has been used to
resum enhanced higher-order corrections, in particular to Higgs production
processes at the LHC.
