Description
In this talk, I will provide an overview of the recent advancements in our understanding of the inner structure of active galactic nuclei (AGN), as obtained through the combination of X-ray spectral and timing information, taking advantage of the fact that the different spectral components contributing to the overall complexity of AGN X-ray spectra are in causal relation with each other. I will discuss how the application of advanced spectral-timing techniques to AGN X-ray data can give strong hints about the physics and geometry of their innermost regions, and reveal information that would otherwise be "hidden" in standard time-integrated spectral analysis.
