Description
Darkside is a two-phase argon TPC designed to search for dark matter at the Gran Sasso underground laboratory. As in most rare events experiments, the challenge of DarkSide is to reduce the background induced by the natural radioactivity.
The strategy used in DarkSide will be described. DarkSide has unique features such as the use of underground argon and an active neutron veto, being radiogenic neutrons the most important source of background for WIMPs searches. In particular, the material cleaning and screening, the underground argon from CO2 wells, assembly in radon free clean room and
tagging of the residual background will be described. Preliminary results from the detector commissioning will be reported.
