Summary

The magnetization behavior of single nanodots is of interest for the hard drive industry in terms of bit patterned media (BPM). To get insight into the magnetic behavior of such vast arrays of nanostructures/nanodots, it is crucial to understand the driving forces in a single magnetic nanostructure. A method, based on the anomalous Hall effect, is presented that has the sensitivity to investigate the magnetization behavior of single nanostructures made from Pt/Co/Pt [1]. The nanodots were fabricated out of thin Pt/Co/Pt multilayers via Ar ion-milling utilizing SiO2-particles as a shadow mask. To obtain single dot sensitivity Hall-crosses with wire width below 100nm are created via electron beam lithography (EBL) on which the nanodots are fabricated.
