Summary

X-ray resonant magnetic scattering experiments using circularly polarized light were performed at the Co L3 absorption edge on wedge-shaped Co/Pd multilayer films. The magnetic domain evolution as a function of locally varied Co thickness is investigated by magnetic diffraction pattern analysis. We find a thickness driven spin-reorientation transition from out-of-plane to in-plane magnetization where the domain size is limited by the second order anisotropy constant.
