New N=1 dualities from orientifold transitions

I will discuss a new class of N=1 dualities arising from the action of type IIB S-duality on a system of branes and orientifolds on singular spaces. I will present both field theoretical and string theoretical evidence for the existence of these dualities, and make some comments on possible applications and further extensions.
