Searching for Beyond the Standard Model Physics with the DUNE Experiment

By deploying a massive high-resolution Liquid Argon Time Projection Chamber detector at the Sanford Underground Research Facility, South Dakota, sampling a high-intensity 1.2 MW neutrino beam produced 1300km away at Fermilab, the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) will perform high-precision measurements of neutrino mixing and potentially discover or constrain CP violation in the lepton sector. The exquisite precision of DUNE oscillation measurements provides unique opportunities to probe and discover new physics beyond the three-flavor mixing paradigm, as well as new physics unrelated to neutrino oscillations. These include light sterile neutrinos, nonstandard neutrino interactions, non-unitarity of the neutrino mixing matrix, low-mass dark matter, large extra-dimensions, heavy neutral leptons, and CPT violation. In this poster, we will present preliminary DUNE sensitivities to physics beyond the standard model, and discuss DUNE’s potential for discovery of new phenomena.
