NEWS (05.12.2019):
With a collaborative effort of DESY Library, DESY Fortbildung and Language Café teams, language magazines from ZEIT Gruppe are now available at the DESY library (building 1): Deutsch perfekt (German), ECOS (Spanish), ADESSO (Italian) and Écoute (French).

Do you need to strengthen your languages skills in e.g. German, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese (e.g. Mandarin or Cantonese), Swedish, Norwegian or any other language in the world or you just simply miss speaking your own mother tongue? Then please join us every two weeks at the DESY Language Café!
Currently we have moderators for German, Italian, Russian and Chinese tables and we are trying to find moderators for at least French and Spanish.

"Practice foreign language for free, while helping others improve in a language you are fluent in for free. And have fun!"

The Language Café is held every two weeks, on Fridays from 12:45 until 13:45.

Participation is free of charge. All involvement by the organizers is made on a voluntary basis. In case you would like to assist the organizers in further developing this language Café, you are also welcome to sign up to be a moderator for your mother tongue or any other language you speak well.

The registration is always open. Please keep in mind that you only need to register for your very first visit to the DESY Language Café. If you already registered to a previous language Café meeting, there is no need to register again. In total, we have around 90 registered participants, who show up whenever they have time.

Free water, coffee and tea with some pastries are kindly provided by PIER Helmholtz Graduate School (

In order to make sure that both participants and moderators get to practice their 1st choice language, the meeting will be divided into 2 x 30 min sessions, where session 1st will be held between 12.45 - 13.15 and 2nd session between 13.15 - 13.45.

At the beginning of every meeting we plan how to divide the participants in different language tables accordingly to the participants & moderators interests.
