You are cordially invited to this special event on artificial intelligence, encompassed by music intermezzos.

The core of this event is a talk by Prof. Pierre Baldi (University of California, Irvine) on:

Artificial Intelligence: Past, Present, and Future

Abstract:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is everywhere from search engines, to translation systems, to self-driving car. This lecture will explore the nature of AI, its relations to natural intelligence, the boundary between what AI can do today and what it cannot do, and how we got to this point. It will also examine possible future directions of research towards better AI systems, with an eye on fairness, interpretability, and safety.

Pierre Baldi is a chancellor's professor of computer science at University of California Irvine and the director of its Institute for Genomics and Bioinformatics.

This will be followed by a podium discussion on machine learning in fundamental research with:

  • Prof. Pierre Baldi, University of California Irvine
  • Prof. Glen D. Cowan - Royal Holloway University London
  • Dr. Tommaso Dorigo - Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare
  • Prof. Andrey Ustyuzhanin - YANDEX School of Economics
