From 2015 the European X-ray Free-Electron Laser Facility (XFEL.EU) will deliver X-ray laser flashes of unprecedented brightness and coherence to a suite of experimental stations. The Materials Imaging and Dynamics (MID) instrument will enable time-resolved X-ray scattering and X-ray imaging experiments applied to a wide range of materials, e.g. from soft to hard condensed matter, from amorphous to crystalline structures, and from surfaces/interfaces to bulk materials.
The MID station is currently in the design phase and the aim of the workshop is to inform the future user community about the latest updates and new possibilities that have emerged. This comprises news about the performance of the XFEL.EU linac, undulators, and self-seeding and reports on experiments from other hard X-ray laser sources, as well as information about the latest detector developments and the status of the MID instrument design. The new scientific possibilities provided by the MID station will be highlighted.
