Due to the unfolding of events regarding the coronavirus/COVID-19, we have decided to postpone the planned workshop on PhD representation until further notice.

The organizers
Felix Giese, Marius Hoffmann, Torben Sobottke, Philine Van Vliet

Background information: What are the reasons to do this workshop now?

We think now is a good time to self-reflect and evaluate the functioning of the PhD students self-organization. Besides other reasons, mainly because:

  • The move of Hamburg university to campus Bahrenfeld will bring new students to us who will currently be unrepresented. To include the new students is a task that we face.
  • New structures like the excellence clusters led to an inflation of graduate schools and PhD represetatives alike. From DoIt's side we welcome the enlargement of active students on campus and would like to intesify the cooperation between student groups and graduate schools in the future. This goes hand in hand with the next point.
  • The newly established ``public education platform'' gives students more opportunities to shape the course offers on campus. How we can do this effectively we would like to learn together.

An overarching challenge is that the statutes of the campus PhD representation DoIt do not know about these current developments: What elements of the statutes, if any, do we what to change to be better prepared for the future (e.g. one idea is to increase the number of speakers from two to three)? Is DoIt still legimitated to represent all students on campus?

In the last session of the day we would like to proceed with the preparation of this years general PhD assembly (date to be announced). This session will be hosted by the PhD election comission from this year.
