How to reach ICTP?
From the airport
When arriving by plane, from the Ronchi dei Legionari Airport, take the bus to Trieste (or a Taxi) and ask the driver to let you off at Grignano (pronounced greenah'no). You may want to show him/her the address of ICTP: ICTP, Centro Internazionale di Fisica Teorica

In the Grignano area, next to the road going down to the Adriatico Guesthouse, you will find signposts indicating where the buildings of the ICTP campus are.
From the city centre
Bus, taxi or train services link the Trieste Rail Station, located 7 km east of ICTP campus, to the Centre.
If you arrive in Trieste by train, you will need to reach ICTP from downtown Trieste.
Bus No. 36 to ICTP
The map shows where the bus stop is near to the train station (which is called Trieste Centrale). Bus No. 36 will take you to ICTP as shown next.
Bus No. 36 runs from Piazza Oberdan in downtown Trieste to Grignano just a short distance from the Adriatico Guesthouse. The stop before Grignano (when coming from Trieste) is closest to the Main Building. Bus 36 runs during the day every 20 minutes. In summer (between June and September), the bus runs more often. From 21:00 until midnight, Bus C runs between Piazza Goldoni and Barcola.

You must purchase your tickets beforehand and they must be validated using the machines provided on the buses. Bus tickets are available at news stands or tobacconists in Trieste and the surrounding area or at the Reception desks of the Adriatico and Galileo Guesthouses.
When you are in the tunnel ring the bell to get off the bus. In the Grignano area, next to the road going down to the Adriatico Guesthouse, you will find the signposts indicating where the buildings of the ICTP campus are.
Taxi to ICTP
If you wish to take a taxi, as you reach the end of the platform exit the train station on the left of the map above. Each piece of luggage carries an extra charge. Taxi fares are more expensive at night, holidays and on runs that take you outside of town.
Train to ICTP
A few trains make daily stops at Miramare Station, located uphill from the Enrico Fermi Building. Arrival and departure times are available on-line (Italian Railways). Tickets must be purchased at the Rail Station in Trieste. They must be validated by using the yellow machines found near the platforms.
