Description
Seeding is the interaction of electrons with an external radiation pulse to produce a particular radiation output. This may be the radiation of a free-electron laser (FEL) at a linear accelerator or an ultrashort synchrotron radiation pulse at a storage ring. Aspects of FEL seeding may also be tested at storage rings with high stability of the beam and high repetition rate. Examples of seeding experiments in the context of coherent harmonic generation (CHG) at the synchrotron radiation source DELTA in Dortmund will be given.
