By air

Travelers to and from Wuppertal by air have a choice of three airports within easy reach of the city. Düsseldorf Airport (DUS) is the closest and can be reached by Regional Express (RE) train in about 35 minutes. Cologne/Bonn Airport (CGN) is particularly popular with low-cost airlines and can be reached by S-Bahn and the Inter-City Express (ICE) train in about 50 minutes while Frankfurt International Airport (FRA) with its almost limitless flight options can be reached by Inter-City Express (ICE) or Inter-City (IC) train in about 1h 45 minutes - 2h 45 minutes which depends on the connection.

From Düsseldorf Airport (DUS) to Wuppertal Hauptbahnhof (Main Station):

Traveling from Düsseldorf Airport (DUS) to Wuppertal Hbf is uncomplicated. Regional Express (RE) trains make the journey generally once per hour in just less than 35 minutes. However, you have to change your train in Düsseldorf Hbf. Alternative options, mostly by S-Bahn train (S7) from the airport terminal to Solingen Hbf and then on to Wuppertal Hbf via RE train, are available but they are a bit slower.

From Cologne/Bonn Airport (CGN) to Wuppertal Hauptbahnhof (Main Station):

S-Bahn train S13 makes the 15-minute journey between Cologne/Bonn Airport (Köln/Bonn Flughafen) and Cologne Main Station (Köln Hauptbahnhof) up to three times per hour. Cologne’s Main Station is a major railway hub with fast connections available to all parts of Germany as well as Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, and even London. You can easily catch a Regional Express (RE), Inter-City (IC) or Regionalbahn (RB) train to Wuppertal Hbf. The journey takes around half an hour.

From Frankfurt International Airport (FRA) to Wuppertal Hauptbahnhof (Main Station):

A few times per day, a direct Inter-City Express (ICE) train runs between Frankfurt International Airport (Frankfurt(M) Flughafen) and Wuppertal Hbf. The journey takes around 2h 45 minutes. However, the faster way is to take the ICE train to Cologne Main Station (Köln Hbf) and then continue either with ICE or Inter-City (IC) train to Wuppertal Hbf. The journey takes in total around 1h 45 minutes.
