Going to Dresden:

    • Dresden Main Station (Dresden Hauptbahnhof) is the closest train station to the University campus and to most of the hotels

  • by airplane

    • to Dresden Airport: https://www.dresden-airport.de/

      Dresden Airport currently has direct connections to Frankfurt, Munich, Duesseldorf, Basel, Zurich, Moscow. For all other destinations you may book stop-over at these cities.

      From Dresden-Airport one can reach the city center, the University campus and most of the hotels within 20 minutes by taking the shuttle train ("S2") to Dresden-Hauptbahnhof (Main station). Train tickets (2,30 EUR) can be bought at the Airport train station or information desk.

      A taxi ride from Dresden-Airport to the city center is about 25 EUR.

      e.g. from Geneva to Schönefeld Airport, and bus (2h) or train (3h) to Dresden (bus departs very frequent directly at airport: see below)

  • by bus w/ several bus lines from many cities, e.g. Berlin, Munich, etc.

Transportation in Dresden

Public transport in Dresden is provided by the Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe. Tickets can be obtained at the yellow ticket machines at the tram or bus stops, as well as from the bus driver. Please make sure you have enough small change at the ready. The following tickets may be of interest for you:

  • Single ticket (2.40 €): Valid for 1 hour within Dresden after validation (tram, bus, ferry).

  • 4 trip ticket (8.60 € ): Same as the single trip ticket, but can be used for 4 trips, or for up to 4 people doing one trip together.

  • One-week ticket (21.90 €): Valid for 7 days after validation (including the day of validation, and till 24:00h on the seventh day).

Unless you buy the ticket from the bus driver, tickets need to be validated inside the tram or bus. Tickets bought from the bus driver are already validated. You can find more information about tickets here.
