The randomness and quantum jumps in quantum mechanics disturbed many leading physicists, and as late as 1952, Erwin Schrödinger claimed ideas to study single quantum particles “as absurd as the one of raising Ichtyosauria in the Zoo”. Many single quantum systems are now routinely subject to experiments, and I shall review methods to describe the random behavior of these Ichtyosauria in the laboratory - along with a discussion of the robustness of the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics.
