Europe/Berlin
Description

The centre of the Milky Way contains the nearest massive black hole, Sagittarius A*. In this talk I briefly review how observations
have accumulated evidence for its nature, starting from its detection with early radio interferometry and culminating in the recent detection of Schwarzschild precession of the orbit of one of the stars in its vicinity, as reported by the GRAVITY consortium.
