The extension of the spectrum of cosmic rays beyond 1 PeV indicates the presence of PeVatrons in the Milky Way. The localization and identification of these extreme Cosmic Ray Factories are critical to elucidating the origin of galactic cosmic rays. Electron PeVatrons constitute another class of extreme accelerators. These ideally designed machines accelerate particles at a rate close to the theoretical margin set by electrodynamics and magnetohydrodynamics. I will discuss a few selected topics related to the physics and astrophysics of galactic PeVatrons in the context of the recent exciting discoveries of > 100 TeV gamma-ray sources.
