Description
Frank is known to most of the LHC community for his precision predictions for the differential Higgs cross section. Since then, he has worked on many different LHC-related topics, including new physics searches and SCET. So we have all the reasons to be confident that he will give a clear and well-rounded talk on what's behind SCET applications to major LHC observables.
And here is his abstact, as usual:
I explain a factorization theorem for the differential distributions of electroweak
gauge bosons and the Higgs valid at low transverse momentum using the Soft-Collinear
Effective Theory (SCET). The effective field theory approach is free of Landau poles
and can be formulated entirely in momentum space. As a result, the numerical results
are free of uncertainties associated with both Landau pole prescriptions and the
matching between the resummed result and the fixed-order perturbative result required
in the region of high $p_T$. I compare the results for the $p_T$ distribution of the
$Z$-boson with measurements by the CDF and D0 collaborations at the Tevatron, and find
good agreement with the data. I also give numerical predictions for the Higgs boson
$p_T$ distribution.
