Abstract: Active galactic nuclei (AGN) are among the most powerful cosmic accelerators, and recent studies have suggested that their jets may be capable of reaccelerating cosmic rays up to EeV energies. In a numerical study recently published in PRL, we simulate the interactions of these cosmic rays inside AGN jets and during their propagation toward Earth. I will discuss the implications for cosmic ray observations, including the effects of chemical composition, and the impact on the neutrino sector. The brightest AGN, most of which are still undetected by IceCube, may actually produce abundant ultra-high energy neutrinos observable by next-generation experiments like IceCube-Gen2, RNO-G, and GRAND.
