Description
X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS) is a powerful method for the investigation of samples from different scientific disciplines. The spectra provide information on the oxidation state, local symmetry, and coordination number and distance of neighbouring atoms. An additional advantage of the method is that crystalline samples, especially large, single-crystals are not required, and that the method works equally well for crystalline or amorphous samples, or in solutions. We will do a few experiments at the XAS beamline P64 in order to study the different benefits (and limitations) of the method.
