DESY is one of the world's leading accelerator centres, with research including accelerator R&D, particle physics and photon science. Onsite there is the PETRA-III synchrotron light source, the FLASH soft X-ray Free Electron Laser, the start of the accelerator for the European XFEL, and Grid computing facilities.
