Questions to all facilitators:

  1. do have special computing requirements? (default: standard NAF account with NFS and HTCondor)
  2. are you looking for more facilitators? (we want at least 2, ideally one of them being based in Hamburg)
  3. are you planning any pre-exercises? (recommended to set up environment)
  4. does your exercise depend on another exercise? (e.g. PAG inclusive jet depends on POG jets)
  5. anything else?
    • 09:30 09:35
      DPG exercise: Trigger 5m
Speakers: Artur Lobanov (Universität Hamburg), Juliette Alimena (CMS (CMS Fachgruppe Searches)), Sanu Varghese
      • Patrick: would you have any candidate, ideally on site? timescale? (Two weeks?)
      • Artur: we have candidates from Uni Hamburg, we'd need to know soon

      • Patrick: @Alex, do we have the possibility to book JHub nodes?
      • Artur: cf. "Primary node"
      • Alexander: not sure about the technicalities, we have to check with the ITs. Alternative would be to collect the details and ask that people try in advance. In case of problems, we can back up to SWAN indeed.
      • Artur: I can try to open a ticket at CERN to get dedicated resources for the school
      • Chris: for muon POG, we have similar needs
      • Patrick: whether CERN or DESY, we need to make sure that we get some support
      • Alex: on 25 Sep, we should have 150 accounts in total. That week, we should send instructions for students to test, and they should get back to us in cases of troubles. Then there is still time to find a solution.
      • Patrick: we should try both CERN & DESY in parallel
      • Artur: will open the ticket
    • 09:40 09:45
      DPG exercise: Tracker 5m
Speakers: Dr Andrea Cardini (CMS (CMS Fachgruppe HIGGS)), Antonio Vagnerini (DESY), Henriette Petersen (CMS (CMS Fachgruppe TOP)), Sandra Consuegra Rodriguez (CMS (CMS Fachgruppe HIGGS)), Suvankar Chowdhury
    • 09:50 09:55
      DPG exercise: ECal 5m
      Speaker: Fabrice Couderc
    • 10:00 10:05
      DPG: HCal 5m
      Speaker: Long Wang
      • Long: planning to recycle the POS19 exercise (Aachen)
      • requirements: only CMSSW
    • 10:10 10:15
      DPG exercise: Muon chambers 5m
Speakers: Archana Sharma (Panjab University, Chandigarh), Federica Simone, Jian Wang
    • 10:20 10:25
      POG exercise: PPD 5m
Speakers: Louis Moureaux (UNI/EXP (Uni Hamburg, Institut fur Experimentalphysik)), Patrick Connor (UNI/EXP (Uni Hamburg, Institut fur Experimentalphysik) & CDCS)
    • 10:30 10:35
      POG exercise: Generators 5m
Speakers: Dominic Stafford (CMS (CMS Fachgruppe TOP)), Luis Ignacio Estevez Banos (CMS (CMS Fachgruppe QCD)), Simone Amoroso (CMS (CMS Fachgruppe QCD))
      • Alexander: use fragments (where you can really see the gen-specific part) and cmsDriver. Many people wrongly try to edit cms configs, and run into problems, while starting from a fragment is much cleaner. Leave cmsDriver technicalities to the PPD though.

      • Andreas: the plotting with Rivet has changed a lot recently, what are you planning to use?
      • Alexander: indeed, it might be useful to include the weights and uncertainty bands

      • Patrick: I did discuss whether Rivet should be included in the GEN exercise, or whether it should be a separate exercise in June, and the conclusion was the former. People should be know enough to write the Rivet routine of their analysis at the end the review of their analysis. If you want to make a separate exercise, I'm happy about it, but we should know soon.
    • 10:40 10:45
      POG exercise: BTV 5m
Speakers: Sebastian Wuchterl (DESY - CMS), Svenja Diekmann
      • Artur: general question was if we use TWiki for documenting exercises
      • Patrick: we will make sure that everyone has a CREN account in advance, for access to documentation, but the exact format is free.

      • Juliette: another general question, how about rooms?
      • Patrick: DPGs in Building 1, POGs Building 1 and uni buildings, PAGs in uni buildings
    • 10:50 10:55
      POG exercise: LUMI 5m
Speakers: Joscha Knolle (Ghent University), Niels Van den Bossche (Ghent University)
      • Patrick: BrilCalc on lxplus --> any hope to have that at DESY instead?
      • Josha: in principle yes, but might be some overhead
      • Alexander: you just plan to execute locally?
      • Josha: yes
      • Alexander: think it's fine... we should just add it in the instructions
      • Artur: it's also very easy to make one
    • 11:00 11:05
      POG exercise: Tracking 5m
      Speaker: Kirill Skovpen (Ghent University)
    • 11:10 11:15
      POG exercise: Jet 5m
Speakers: Andreas Hinzmann (CMS (CMS Fachgruppe Searches)), Paris Gianneios, Patrick Connor (UNI/EXP (Uni Hamburg, Institut fur Experimentalphysik) & CDCS), Polidamas Kosmoglou
      • Patrick: the question isn't PyROOT or ROOT, but which exercises you want to recycle
      • Andreas: mixing PyROOT and ROOT isn't really a problem
    • 11:20 11:25
      POG exercise: Muons 5m
Speakers: Christian Winter, Christian Winter (CMS (CMS-Experiment)), Federica Simone, Nicolo Trevisani (KIT - Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (DE))
      • Andreas: what do you need this "Spark" for exactly?
      • Christian: not sure exactly, have to check with Federica. Perhaps we can reduce a smaller case.
      • Alexander: there was some criticism that we heard at the CERN Schhol about the amount of material. One the one hand I really like that we give a broad overview of the possibilities; on the other hand we should also keep in mind that these will be 10 intense days of technicalities. I'd suggest that we stick at not too advanced technology.
    • 11:30 11:35
      POG exercise: Proton 5m
Speakers: Beatriz Ribeiro Lopes (CMS (CMS Fachgruppe TOP)), Michael Pitt
    • 11:40 11:45
      POG exercise: Taus 5m
Speakers: Dr Andrea Cardini (CMS (CMS Fachgruppe HIGGS)), Océane Poncet
      • Patrick: to read on pnfs, no need for a certificate
      • Andreas: the jobs during the coffee break, I'm wondering, they may then not go for coffee break at all...
      • Andrea: I'll force them to go out for that :)
    • 11:50 11:55
      POG exercise: EGM 5m
Speakers: Afiq Aizuddin Anuar (CMS (CMS Fachgruppe TOP)), Anshul Kapoor, Ms Ying An (CMS (CMS Fachgruppe TOP))
      1. do have special computing requirements? (default: standard NAF account with NFS and HTCondor)

no computation for crab or condor but we need Jupyter Notebook. Crab jobs will be run by us in advance. Just make students try to run locally and show them how crab/condor jobs work. Need to read files in pnfs.

            2. are you looking for more facilitators? (We want at least 2, ideally one of them being based in Hamburg)

We have three now, and one gives remote support. Afiq is not totally 100% sure about coming in person. Need to discuss his availability with him later.

            3. are you planning any pre-exercises? (recommended to set up the environment)

We need to set up CMSSW environment, NanoAOD, Roofit, uproot, awkward, .... So pre-exercise for a brief introduction to these would be fine.

            4. does your exercise depend on another exercise? (e.g. PAG inclusive jet depends on POG jets)

We will introduce a little bit of the ECAL calibration contents. So might have a small dependence on ECAL.

      • Andreas: do you have problems with the memory?
      • Ying: no need for much memory
