This course focuses on statistical methods in particle physics. It is primarily designed for PhD students conducting physics data analysis at the LHC or other HEP experiments; however, it is also open to other interested students and post-doctoral researchers. The school covers key statistical analysis tasks in both theory and practice and includes in-depth lectures on areas of high relevance.

Topics:

  •  Probability
  •  Hypothesis testing
  •  Parameter estimation
  •  Confidence intervals
  •  Systematic uncertainties
  •  Theory uncertainties
  •  Machine Learning
  •  Unfolding
  •  Bayesian inference

Invited Lecturers: Roger Barlow, Glen Cowan,  Frank Tackmann, Tilman Plehn,  Lydia Brenner and Kevin Kroeninger

The program will primarily consist of lectures. For some topics, interactive computing exercises in Python are planned; technical details will be announced well in advance of the school.

The school fee is 100 Euro and includes conference dinner and coffee breaks.

The DESY Hostel must be booked by yourself (places are not guaranteed!)

It is expected that you bring your own laptop for the hands on sessions.
