HXS (High Energy X-ray Scattering) will be the 8th scientific instrument at the European XFEL, strategically advancing the facility’s capabilities. Designed to support experiments utilizing SASE2 FEL radiation, HXS will enable access to high-energy X-rays in the 30–80 keV range, made possible by the superconducting after-burner of SASE2 (lower photon energies still possible). The construction of the X-ray beam transport, dedicated X-ray hutch, and essential infrastructure will begin during the long 2025 shutdown.

As part of this strategic initiative, the European XFEL's Management Board, the Scientific Advisory Committee, and the HIBEF MB have approved the development of a concept to transfer the diamond anvil cell (DAC) platform from HED to HXS, which ensures that the excellent performance can be maintained and further developed.

The workshop will provide an opportunity to discuss the scientific potential of HXS, explore its capabilities, and involve the user community to shape its future direction.
