Presentation on Beam dump mechanical design (M. Benettoni):
- simplified CAD model of beam dump available, machinery in place to export geometry in Fluka
- need to converge on geometry (distance to steering magnet, steering angle, etc.)
- FEA for 20kW on dump (10kW on half dump section) show temperatures up to 300°C, maximum operation temperature for AL should be below 250°C
- Temperature profile dependent on beam size on the dump (T20: 100x100um, for 50nC will need bigger diameter)
- Need quadrupoles for defocusing beam before dump (without, T20 beam spot would be 40x40micron
- Need information on energy spread on the dumps (main dump, LUXE electron dumps - how similar are they?)
Presentation on Fluka simulation (S. Vasiukov):
- Energy deposition: Reach limit of 15J/g for Aluminium core of dump with 0.1mm beam size, need to widen beam
- Validation of Fluka results: Sergii will send Fluka input file to Ted to cross-check
- Radiation maps show increased radiation levels near the dump
--> Recommendation by Ted: optimize Sarcophagus, add 5-10cm of Steel to the outside (mitigation of gamma emitter nuclides), keep in mind max load of tunnel floor, avoid lead, avoid cobalt traces in steel
- Which conditions should radiation levels fulfil, and which run modes should be checked?
--> Run mode: Few weeks/year running with 50nC (for Plasma/TB operation), check full-year runtime with 1 bunch at 10Hz for LUXE-running
