Intro/Beamline concept (Winni)

  • Dogleg extraction after bend in XTD3
  • Current state of concept main "working components" are dipole magnets
  • QH and QF triplets inserted at ~right numbers but position end fields require tuning
  • Current concept horizontal only, in realistic one need vertical kick and vertical dipoles to guide back into photon beam pipe
  • Could be sensible to redesign magnets especially in the overhead section in XTD3, to optimize weight

Talk on beam optics/dynamics calculation (Marin):

  • First implementation based on list of magnets from Winnis concept with approximated positions and field strengths
  • Simulation using Xsuite
  • Quite large beta function in x and nonzero dispersion at the end
  • Comments by Winni: acceptable beta function should be <100
  • To optimize dispersion, consider subsections of the beamline step-by-step rather than all at once
  • Switch to Ozelot tool (used by Plasma community, EuXFEL plans to use in the future), could ELBEX help pilot it?

Talk on CAD integration of beamline (Benno):

  • Integration model in NX in place
  • Exchange of information on placement of beamline elements via Excel table from simulation (--> need to define coordinate system for parts)
  • Template is "long list" from Mad8 used by Winni for EuXFEL
  • Different detail grades for placeholders, place holders with interfaces, inner component structure
  • Could define place holder "corridor" for beamline which respects boundary conditions from tunnel etc.

Mounting constraints/Virtual Tunnel view (Daniel):

  • In XTD3, can only mount on metal rails in concrete Tuebbings, don't have metal arcs for welding like in XTL
  • Tradeoff between number of anchor points to support more weight but also resulting in more weight of mount itself
  • Can mount on the floor (example of photon beam pipe), but have to take care of escape routes and transport paths

Next meeting: 21st of August 10:00AM

  • Discuss progress on the beamline design
  • Beam parameter requirements from ELBEX users (Plasma, TB, LUXE)
