For the XFEL project a decision has to be taken about a common standard for the front-end electronics crate system. To be able to provide common software service for the machine with all the required functionalities, one crate standard should to be agreed on. This standard should be used for all beam relevant diagnostic systems. Other subsystems like vacuum or cryo could use other electronic systems, since the data rates and the requirements to synchronize and correlate the data are relaxed.
