As part of the PETRA III extension, DESY is planning to build a beamline (P24) dedicated to Chemical Crystallography. It will be designed to provide excellent experimental facilities to continue the scientific activities at the former DORIS beamlines D3 and F1, also offering considerably enhanced X-ray beam properties for advanced experiments. The new beamline will have two endstations: In the first experimental hutch the University of Hamburg will set up a new 4-circle diffractometer in kappa geometry funded by BMBF Verbundforschung. The second hutch downstream will be the home of the refurbished 4-circle diffractometer which was in use at the D3 beamline. At the moment, two concepts for the beamline optics are being considered: it can either employ the radiation form a relatively short or from a 2 m long undulator. The limiting factor is the maximum tolerable heat load on the existing water-cooled monochromator. The short undulator option will enable a better wavelength tunability, but with less photon flux and somewhat larger beam size at the sample. The workshop aims at presenting the conceptual design of the beamline (especially the optics) and discussing the plans with its potential users. Fundamental parameters like energy ranges, energy resolution, beam size, etc. will be discussed to finalize the specification of the beamline optics to be implemented.

Confirmed invited speakers
Sander van Smaalen, Uni Bayreuth

Workshop fee
There will be a workshop fee of € 30,00 for all participants except for invited speakers.
The workshop fee covers refreshments on both days as well as the workshop dinner on the evening of March 4th, 2014.

Participants are asked to arrange travelling and accommodation on their own. We strongly recommend you to book your accommodation as soon as possible. Booking accommodation at DESY Hostel is only possible via the guest house registration form.

The program will be finalized by the end of February, 2014.

Please, register and pay the workshop fee until March 3rd, 2014.

Looking forward to seeing you at DESY!
