Astroparticle Physics has grown to a global science activity with large infrastructures and collaborations. Such large-scale projects and activities face challenging problems of data collection, data storage and data mining. Costs associated with computing will constitute a significant fraction of the construction and running cost of an infrastructure.
Over the last years, APPEC and ASPERA organised three workshops with emphasis on (1) Grid and Virtual Observatory (October 2010, Lyon), (2) middleware (May 2011, Barcelona), and (3) hardware aspects (May 2012, Hanover). Based on the results of the three workshops and a survey of the projects’ computing requirements an APPEC working group prepared a draft for a white paper outlining the future astroparticle physics computing model.
The aim of this workshop is to present and discuss the drafted model for astroparticle physics computing with the community and all interested stakeholders in Europe with the clear goal of finalising the white paper.
