Description
TRIUMF recently reduced its infrastructure and administrative footprint
by replacing a 5 year old attached storage subsystem with a DDN embedded
dCache system. Our traditional 1.5 PB storage subsystem consisted of 21
4U servers requiring multiple racks. Using a DDN® SFA® 12KXE system we
commissioned 1.6 PBs running on eight dCache virtual nodes in half a rack.
This embedded dCache system provides significant savings in data center
space, power and cooling costs over traditional architectures without losing performance we had. We
summarize our experience so far with this embedded dCache system.
