The idea for this series of courses was created in 2001 when the idea to build x-ray free-electron lasers became real with the proposal of X-ray FEL facilities for 0.1 nm radiation in Europe and in the U.S.A. In the years 2001 to 2013 in total 12 courses have been organized.
