Description
ATLAS is a multipurpose detector at CERN for observing proton-proton collisions produced by the LHC. Sophisticated experimental techniques are required to extract a set of physics results from these collision data that is unprecedented in variety. We introduce the ATLAS detector, emphasizing challenges in operations, trigger and data acquisition, and object identification that are overcome through advanced electronics, large-scale distributed computing, and machine-learning techniques.
