Description

A broad range of models for new physics predict enhanced couplings to third generation quarks. We report on early searches for new physics, in particular supersymmetry, with the ATLAS detector at the LHC, focusing on events with b-tagged jets and missing transverse energy. We discuss the relevant performance of the ATLAS detector in tagging bottom quark jets in first collision data, and we present a first look at the 7 TeV data set from a SUSY search perspective.
