Visa and entry regulations

Visa

Please consult the website of the German Foreign Office to see if you require a visa to enter Germany and the Schengen area. If you need an invitation letter for the visa application, please contact the meeting organizers after your registration.

Entry regulations and restrictions

The restrictions of entry into the EU have been relaxed, so that most attendees should in principle be able to enter Germany in September. We will inform  you via email if COVID-related entry regulations change. Of course, feel free to visit the website of the German Foreign Office regarding entry regulations.

All travellers:

As of August 1, 2021, people wishing to enter Germany must present proof of either full vaccination, a negative Covid-19 test results or proof that they have recovered from a Covid-19 infection.

  • The test (e.g. PCR, PoC- PCR) must have been carried out no more than 72 hours prior to entry (time of swabbing).
  • The proof of vaccination against COVID-19 must be given in German, English, French, Italian or Spanish in digital or paper form (e.g. WHO vaccination booklet). The vaccine used must be one of those listed on the website of the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut.
  • Recovery is proved by a positive PCR test result carried out at least 28 days but no more than six months previously.

Approved vaccines:

Full vaccination means that 14 days have passed since your final dose of one of the vaccines approved by the European Medicines Agency. The currently approved vaccines are:

  • Comirnaty (BioNTech/Pfizer)
  • Moderna
  • Vaxzevria (AstraZeneca)
  • Janssen (Johnson and Johnson)
  • Combination of Vaxzevria + BioNTech/Moderna

Travellers from high-risk areas

If you have stayed in a designated high-risk-area within 10 days before your entry, you are obliged to register beforehand at https://www.einreiseanmeldung.de/ and provide proof of vaccination, a negative test result or proof of recovery.

As of September 19, 2021, high-risk areas include countries such as the United States, UK, and Japan. Please check the list beforehand whether this applies to you.

Entry bans

Entry bans are still upheld for a number of countries. This concerns travellers from China as well as travellers from an area of variant of concern (Currently: no such designated areas). Entry from these areas is practically not possible even for fully vaccinated travellers.
