Are you approaching the end of your PhD and thinking about the next step in your career? Do you wonder what your strengths and talents are and what kind of job will suit you? In this interactive workshop, we will explore topics so as to enable you to make an informed and educated decision in finding what you want to do next and get prepared for it.
Workshop of 16 hours, 8 sessions of between 1 and 2.5 hours starting at 15:30 on Tuesdays, from the beginning of February until the end of April 2022.

This intensive workshop on Career Orientation is tailored for PhD students in 2nd or 3rd year of their PhD.

The maximum number of participants is 12.

Please read the workshop outline carefully and do only register if you are willing (and able) to attend all 8 sessions.

Dates:

Session 1 – Feb. 1st, 2022, 3:30 pm: Discover what you want in work (2.5 hours), self-analysis for career orientation

Session 2 – Feb. 8th, 2022, 3:30 pm: Networking: (2.5 hours)

Session 3 – Feb. 22nd, 3:30 pm: Professional social media network: the basics + start working on your own profile (2.5 hours)

Session 4 – March 1st, 2022, 3:30 pm: CV and writing your cover letter (2.5 hours)

Session 5 – week March 7th – 11th – to be defined Mentoring in pairs (2 hours/pair)

Session 6- March 22nd, 3:30 pm: Ace your job interview (2.5 hours)

Session 7 – April 5th, 2022, 3:30 pm: Producing an Action Plan to better Achieve your Career Goals (2.5 hours)

Session 8 – week April 19th-22nd, to be defined: Individual Coaching (1 hour /person)

Summary: 8 sessions between 1. February until 22. April 2021, 3:30-6:00pm, Individual coaching sessions of 1 hour per person during the last week (17 to 22 April 2021), Online via Zoom.

This course counts for 1,5 credit points (CP) in category C (key skills) of the PIER study programme.

This workshop is part of the transferable skills portfolio of the PIER Education Platform (PE) on the Science Campus Bahrenfeld. The workshops are usually one-day courses for a maximum number of 12-15 participants and are offered once or twice a year. The trainers are carefully selected experts with many years of experience in teaching scientists. Some of the workshops are open for postdocs.

The workshops offered in the PIER Education Platform are a cooperation between the PIER Helmholtz Graduate School and its partner organisations and institutes Quantum Universe Research School QURS, the Collaborative Research Center SFB 925, The Hamburg Centre for Ultrafast Imaging CUI, the International Max Planck Research School for Ultrafast Imaging & Structural Dynamics IMPRS-UFAST, DASHH, the Centre for Structural Systems Biology CSSB, the European Molecular Biology Laboratory EMBL and HELIOS.
