Louise Carvalho (CERN)
Louise was born in Liverpool and grew up on Vancouver Island, Canada. She is of Anglo-Irish and Goan descent, has dual nationality, lived in six countries, and feels at home in a multi-national environment.
Louise joined CERN in 2014 as a Legal Adviser and was appointed Diversity & Inclusion Programme Leader in 2018. In this role, Louise leads CERN’s signature D&I initiative, “25 by ‘25” to boost gender and nationality diversity at CERN. With a heightened level of D&I awareness and engagement at all levels across the Organization, policies and processes are becoming more and more inclusive. A number of other initiatives that give voice and visibility to diverse communities keep Louise and her team constantly challenged and rewarded both professionally and personally.
Dr. Francesca Primas (ESO)
Francesca is Full Astronomer at the European Southern Observatory. After a PhD in Astrophysics in 1995, she held positions as Research Associate at the University of Chicago, and as Fellow at ESO, where she then became staff astronomer with different responsibilities, both research-related and managerial. Alongside, she has actively engaged in the promotion of women in astronomy, a strong voice against gender biases especially in recruitment, performance evaluations and peer review processes. Her last project, Astro Voices, gives a “voice” to female astronomers and students from around the world in sharing their passion for astronomy, and speaks for her strong commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Lia Lang (DESY)
Lia studied in Munich, Stockholm and Berlin and holds a master degree in women and gender studies from the Humboldt University Berlin. As a Diversity & Inclusion Coordinator and Career Counselor at DESY she works passionately for inclusive career development in academia. Lia, together with her team, established the first Career Center for Postdoctoral Researcher at DESY in 2020 with a budget of over 1 Mio. Euro. Since 2018 she facilitates workshops on career skills for undergraduate students at the Humboldt University Berlin.
Lisa Kamlade (DESY)
Lisa studies business psychology (M.Sc.) and is a project manager at DESY in Hamburg. In the GENERA project she was the Implementation Manager coordinating between all relevant stakeholders involved in the implementation of a Gender Equality Plan at DESY. Besides her involvement in several EU-funded projects she coordinates the GENERA Network.
