In this workshop you will learn how to create illustrations that effectively communicate your research.

How do you create a scientific image that communicates what you would like it to communicate? In this short course, you will learn how to draw in the free professional vector software Inkscape and create an image that explains your research project. You will also learn about the best practices in data visualization, image compositing, typography, and how to design with colors. This online course stretches over two weeks, where drawing tutorials are available as videos and theory plus feedback modules will be held in web meetings.

Please note that the kick-off session starts on October 1:
09.00-10.00: Kick-off meeting: You will get access to drawing tutorial videos plus your assignment

October 14:
09:00 - 10:15:  Visuals in Science and graphical abstracts
10:30 - 12:00:  Feedback on your assignment (groups of 5)

October 15:
09:00 - 10:15: Image composition, design with color and data visualization
10:30 - 12:00: Feedback on your improved image (groups of 5)

After the course you will know how to use Inkscape and create advanced vector illustrations. You will also have an image explaining your research. This image can be the foundation for a future graphical abstract of a method image on a poster.

Responsible instructor: Andreas Dahlin
Feedback instructors: Kess Marks, Mads Luchow, Moa Kristiansson, Katrin Beilharz, Elena Mondino
